Another tool, another perspective.
After completing the required drone training and examinations, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the WingtraRAY fixed-wing UAV during a field demonstration for Hungary’s national railway company, in cooperation with RoaData.
Coming from terrestrial laser scanning, mobile mapping and point cloud processing, what interested me most was seeing another approach to geospatial data acquisition in the field.
Every capture technology has its strengths and limitations. The important part is not simply adding another tool to the list, but understanding where it fits into a wider workflow and what problem it can actually solve.
For me, that process of testing, comparing and learning remains an important part of working with reality capture technology even after more than 15 years in the field.
